Why Should You Use PNG File Format in Your Website Creation?
The advantages of incorporating PNG file format in web designing over various other file types such as GIF and JPEG; the file format helps to make really amazing and efficient web graphics that will wow your consumersThe PNG file format was introduced some time ago; it was brought out for consumers in 1995/96 to meet the deficiencies of the popular GIF file type. However, it did not make an impression because the the browsers of the time could not offer support to the progressive attributes of PNG so internet designers and developers had to include it in their designs stingily. One of the primary hindrances that marred the features of PNG was with Microsoft's Internet Explorer which was one of the most popular browsers of the time; IE had very little place for PNG support which meant that the format could only be made use of in the most restricted way. But, things metamorphosed when IE7 was brought out; this new browser from Microsoft has proved immensely useful in increasing increasing the utility of PNGs. So lets take a look at three reasons why PNG is is often regarded as the most useful image formats around today:
You can get transparent images or a feature called alpha transparency: When you pitch GIF against PNG, you will see that a very distinct advantage with PNG is that you can only save a specific color as transparent in GIF this simply means that the color can be used whether opaque or transparent with nothing in between; however, with PNG, you get a specific feature over GIF; because the format can be used to produce semi transparency. With this attribute, you can save a PNG image with a soft drop shadow and then use it against a background of your choice. The Image can also be used as a background with gradient or a water mark. The format allows for the smooth fading of hues from entirely opaque to see through, exposing the webpage underneath
They look spectacular: Not only do you get surprising flexibility when using PNG images but also; there are numerous other advantages to using this format. For example, when you use a JPEG image, you lose a part of the details from the initial image each time you save the file, so eventually, you will notice a noticeable downgrade in the quality of the images. Even though, this issue has now been sorted in GIF and you can store the pictures without losing any details, GIF only allows for a limited 256 color palette, which renders it quite useless if you are going to store a snap shot. But, when you use PNG, you can get the perfect features of both these formats; you will have access to a complete color display like the one used in JPEG format and it also supports managed color palette as seen in GIF files. At the same time the storage of the picture is without loss so the picture stays as it is even if you save the file several times.
Self Optimization is possible in PNG: One of the hurdles that web programmers face very often is the anomaly due to which the contrast and the brightness of the monitor has to be adjusted to see the pictures correctly; the issue comes into the picture due to the Gamma settings of different monitors. Gamma is a technique incorporated to distribute the luminance across the screen. However, different operating systems use varying Gamma settings. Hence, a picture that is color corrected to suit Windows may appear abnormal in Mac. Again, in this situation the innovative PNG image type can help you out, in PNG, you can store the images with an inherent Gamma correction feature so regardless of the operating system; the Gamma settings will be automatically adjusted to show an image with the impressive brightness and contrast.
