Why Is it In Your Best Interest To Use PNG Images in Your Web Design?
The pros of using PNG file format in website creation over the different image formats like GIF and JPEG; the file format helps to make better and spectacular images that will wow your visitorsThe PNG file type was introduced a few years back; it was put forth in the market around 95/96 to meet the deficiencies of the traditional GIF file format. However, it did not make an impression because the then browsers were not designed to support the progressive attributes of PNG so website designers and makers had to incorporate it sparingly. One of the main hurdles faced by the format was Microsoft's Internet Explorer which was by far the most famous browsers of the time; IE had very little space for PNG support which equated to the fact that the format could only be used to a bare minimum. Then, matters went through a change with the introduction of IE7; this new product from Microsoft has helped in increasing the usability of PNGs. So lets take a look at three reasons why PNG is by far the most useful image formats in the market today:
It is possible to create see through images or alpha transparency: When you analyze the features of GIF and PNG, you will see that a very distinct advantage with PNG is that you you will be restricted to saving a specific color transparently through the use of GIF which means that you can get the color whether opaque or transparent with nothing in between with the use of PNG, you get a specific feature over GIF; because the format supports semi transparent pixels. This simply means that you can save a PNG image with a soft drop shadow and then use it against a background of your choice. Through this feature you will be able to use an image as a watermark or a gradient background. The image file type allows for the slow fading of hues from fully opaque to absolutely transparent, and hence you will be able to view the webpage that lies in the background
They look fantastic: Not only do you get surprising flexibility when using PNG images but also; there are several other advantages to using this format. For instance, if you make use of the JPG Format, you lose some of the information on the original file each time you save the file, so in time, you will be able to see a distinct downgrade in the finesse of the media. Even though, this concern has now been sorted in the image format and you will be able to store the images without sacrificing any details, GIF has a highly restrictive 256 color palette, which imparts it quite useless if you have to store a photograph. However, when you use PNG, you will get the best benefits of the image formats; you will have access to an extensive color display like the one used in JPEG file type and it also supports managed color palette a la GIF files. At the same time the compression of the file is without loss so the image does not change despite innumerable times of saving the file.
PNG allows for self optimization: A major concern that web programmers face on a daily basis is the fact that the contrast and the brightness of the monitor has to be regulated to see the the display correctly; this happens due to the difference in the Gamma setting used for the different monitors. Gamma is a method that helps to distribute the brightness across the screen. However, diverse operating systems use varying Gamma settings. So, a picture that is color corrected to suit Windows may not look right on a Mac. Here again, in this case the versatile PNG picture format comes to the rescue, in PNG, you can save the pictures with a built in Gamma correction so regardless of the operating system; the Gamma settings will be changed on its own to display a picture with the impressive ratios of contrast as well as brightness.
